Sun Micro To Unveil New Data Networking Products Wed.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) is expected to announce a new
initiative aimed at making large databases more easily accessible over the Internet.

Dubbed "datacenter.com," Sun is packaging hardware, software and financing together to sell to
large corporations that want to make vast amounts of data available on the Internet. Customers for
Sun's networked data products include Chase Manhattan Bank Corp. (CMB) and Lexis/Nexis.

Sun executives said their data center products help to network information contained on mainframe
computers, like those sold by competitor International Business Machines Corp. (IBM).

Sun is expected to show off the new offerings at an event here Wednesday.

Many of the products Sun will introduce Wednesday are upgrades of its existing servers and storage
systems.

But the company is also offering a new leasing program to help customers finance their purchases,
dubbed Sun Microsystems Finance. The financing initiative replaces a hodgepodge of banking
relationships Sun had worldwide with a single offering, co-developed with GE Capital Corp.

Sun is expected to announce other new services with the program, including a testing center in Menlo
Park.
