Tom: Oh, yeah. How silly of me to overlook the obvious.

Instead of changing the code ... just change the hardware. What a concept!

You know, this could have significant repercussions for all the existing hardware vendors. The only market they would have is .... uh ... hmmmmm. Come to think of it, they'd have no market at all, I guess.

And, just think of the impact on the refuse removal firms having to extract all that existing hardware from those environmentally conditioned computer rooms. What would they do with all those air handling units, water coolant systems, and the air filtering systems? Donate them to health care installations, I guess. That, in turn, would lessen the load on Medicare. What a deal!

Oh ... and the power companies that supply electricity to the buildings housing the existing mega-computers would immediately have excess capacity that they could sell to neighboring cities. Maybe we could shut down all the nuclear power plants around the world. No more 3-Mile Island situations.

Speaking of power, I wonder if my existing extension cord that powers my office light could be used as a power cord for the new supercomputers? It only has two prongs on it, but I would expect the "reconfiguring hardware" to automatically adjust for the lack of a ground wire.
