[Recent correspondence concerning WSTL website]
You guys who design websites for a living probably have better insight than me. Put your two cents in.
E-MAIL with history.......
Constructive comments:
Note: I have been following your website several times a week for 2 years along with BA, LU, TI, MOT, AMTX, PAIR, ORCTF, AWRE, BT, BLS, SBC, ALA, on and on....
Please finish the following links:
1. Investor Relations - Analysts: provide links to research if possible, i.e. Joel A. at PCM publishes publicly at preftech.com
2. Links to upcoming events i.e.: supercomm99.com dslcon.com ispcon.internet.com
3. About Westell - Customers and Partners: A lot of this info is available in Annual Report and press releases, however grouped together may have better impact.
4. Sales, Service, Support - Electronic Documents - Brochures in "Soon to come". DMT may not be ready but I would think all of the cap documents would be readily available.
5. DSL Solutions - DSL Customers: **** Very Important**** List all trial customers and deployments such as Bell Atlantic, GTE, BT, Northwestel, BC, US West, Bell South, Ameritech, etc. . If you look at ALA website, it seems that they have listed everyone they have ever sold a modem to.
6. DSL Solutions - DSL Partners: **** Very Important**** Orckit website is good example here:
orckit.com
7. DSL Solutions - Power Point Tutorial, FAQS, White Paper, Industry news:
Good for those unfamiliar with technology who keep fostering misinformation (i.e. CBS marketwatch article a few weeks ago saying AWRE supplying BA with modems)
Again, Orckit is good example: orckit.com Others: mot.com aware.com
8. DSL Solutions - Industry News:
Links of use: adsl.com uawg.com itu.int web.ansi.org telechoice.com
9. News Center - Online Press Kit - Installations, Strategic Relationships, Partners, and Success Stories:
Same as #3 and #5. Westell has to have at least one installation you can talk about. A blank page for Success Stories does not give prospective customers or investors much confidence.
10. Explore our Site - Site Map and Search:
These are the basics of any website and a must! I am sorry (I want WSTL to succeed as I have a load of shares) but that is part of what I meant by not professional.
Other tips:
Put some movement into the site. Add more thumb nails especially in products sections. Use more variations in Fonts, Font sizes, etc. which are more pleasing to the eye and provide more contrasts for different sections. Provide links everywhere! Aware is good example of above: aware.com
It is bright and lively, has all the basic tools, is very complete, and definitely puts there best face forward.
I know that a great website may not have an effect on winning RFP from large Telcos, except that they probably want to be associated with first class vendors. But, for investors, it makes a BIG difference. It helps them to understand the industry, your customers, your partners, the real story behind the numbers. When numbers are negative, it helps to have a great story. Investors are forward looking but need to be convinced with a great vision which an outstanding website promotes. You guys have much more going for you than Aware but they know how to sell their story (4 1/4 to 40)..
