Jeff That's a great point about getting ballpark ideas of prices.... From what I have learnt 800 Travel Systems (IFLY) spent a considerable amount of time studying the reservation process and other online travel sites. Most of the other travel sites have a very high look-to-book ratio - the number of times someone looks up a price before booking.... and it turns out most people are "ballparking" prices and THEN calling up a travel agent on the telephone. The IRIS system was delivered to cut down on the look to book ratio, to deliver better profitability and to inspire customer confidence in the online reservation process. Remember the team behind 800 Travel Systems has great experience in airline ticketing and the reservation process. They have focused, even in the telephone reservations, on making that process highly efficient both for agent and for customer. The IRIS reservation system is the outcome of a careful study of the reservation process and a combined experience of many many years in the travel business and airline ticketing specifically. To look at "the competition"...Preview Travel is mostly made up of people with technical/database experience. 800 Travel Systems is made up of travel industry veterans - Constance Norris' (VP operations) 18 years experience in reservation systems and call center operations dwarfs the combined travel experience of Preview Travel's team. So... yes people might look up prices on Expedia and Preview Travel - but the IFLY team is banking on them on coming to IRIS for the final purchase at the possibly the lowest price and with far better service and much more confidence.
