You're kidding, right? There were literally hundreds of ISP alternatives to AOL No I was not kidding. Other ISPs are not content providers like AOL and can not be compared to AOL. If people just need internet connection, they wouldn't need AOL. Even in terms of providing internet access, AOL is by far the dominant number one player. ETrade is number 3 in its crowded field.
