An exit strategy can be triggered by any number of criteria and when those criteria are hit then one exits if they are using a mechanized system. It depends on YOUR exit criteria. If you said exit at a maximum 8% loss or 10% gain then you exit when either is triggered which you can monitor in real time. I'm a short term position trader so I don't worry about using intra-day real time data in my testing, end of day data, with open, high, low and close is more than adequate.
