Off topic, for all my friends on the IDX thread, So do you want to see something really scary?
Follow these directions to a Tee, to see if you are 2000 ready,
Assuming you are using windows 95 or 98, shutdown your computer in the MS DOS mode. Or go to MS dos if you are using an earlier version. Type cd/ to get to a C: prompt. Take a formatted 3 1/2 disk and place it in your A slot. Type sys a: You should get a sys transferred message. Now reboot your computer with the newly made system disk in the A slot. Your computer should eventually boot up to A: Now type date Now change your date to 12-31-1999 Now type time, now change your time to 11:55:00.00p Immediately turn off your computer and wait 6 or seven minutes. Now turn on your computer with the system disk still in drive A. Note the date or if the date doesn't come up. type date. If it says 01-01-2000, you are probably ok, however there are still some more test for leap year compatibility If your computer comes up to 01-04-1980 or some other weird year, as 5 out of 7 of mine did, you are in for a world full or SH-- ! After you get done with this test, pull the disk out of drive A and reboot your computer. Immediately reset the time and date to the right time and date and you are back in business. Good luck, and if you find you are not compliant, call or E-mail the manufacturer with your model and serial number to see if there is a fix. P.S. If you do not understand how to do this, don't do it. Folks, this is an eye opener. When you actually see your computer screw up right before your eyes, you will start taking the FY 2000 problem seriously.
P.S. Of the 5 computers I had that didn't measure up, one was IBM, two Packard Bell, 1994 vintage, non-pentium and two were off brand 1994 and 1995. Our new 1998 Compac was fine as was another 1997.
