I don't buy it. All of these are voluntary activities.

I would accept the death penalty only in cases that are utterly devoid of any conceivable extenuating circumstance. Meaning a crime that was not only premeditated but calculated by a criminal who was clearly aware of all possible ramifications of his act. Poverty is not an excuse, but it is an extenuating circumstance; I wouldn't execute the absolute poor, no matter what they did. I wouldn't let them out either, but I wouldn't execute them. OJ? Was it calculated, or was it a crime of passion? I don't really know; I was up in the mountains during the whole thing and didn't follow it at all.

Remember, the death penalty has been repeatedly proven not to deter, and if systems to ensure guilt are fully employed, it is more expensive than prison for life. Short of revenge, then, what is the case for it?
