All I know is that the Pentium III runs on 1.8 volts. This will require a BIOS change for many current 440BX motherboards out there, since some of them won't recognize a Pentium III right off the bat and won't know to set the voltage at 1.8. Currently, I think all Pentium II CPUs as well as Celerons run on 2.0 volts.

Here's a tangent. Some of the web sites who previewed the Pentium III mentioned that it only comes with a heat sink and no fan. Perhaps the lower voltage setting will contribute to less heat. Also, the Pentium III includes the new packaging which allows direct contact between the heatsink and the daughtercard. But I'm sure some will wonder why a Pentium III that sells for hundreds of dollars doesn't come with a fan.
