You can get 400 standard pages of plain text on a 1.44 and since the Macs that your relative uses are equipped with legacy 1.44 drives it makes perfect sense to use cheap 1.44 disks for such "small transfers". But try squeezing a 300 page doctoral dissertation saved in MSWord 7 format on that 1.44 and you'll likely be making a trip to the computer store to buy........you guessed it!.....an IOMEGA ZIP DRIVE...there will be lots of them displayed. There won't be any Orb drives or Sony drives - I have yet to see either in any computer store I've been in, and a survey of the most recent issues of PC World and PC Computing show zero advertising presence for any removable disk storage device other than Iomega's. I just got a sale flyer in the mail from Dell and the only removable disk storage device they offer as an option is....you guessed it!........an Iomega Zip Drive! The 1.44 floppy drives will still be around for awhile as a legacy device by necessity (haven't they already disappeared from the new I-Macs?)but will slowly disappear in general. Iomega Zip drives will not disappear however. Their need and usefulness is growing.
