Thanks, Henry. But the line I'm looking at is "Forgn hold U.S. debt", (page MW69 in last week's Barrons), which I always assumed (perhaps wrongly, I am NOT a trained economist or statistician) meant how much debt foreign central banks held. Corrections to any misconceptions that I may have are always welcome.

But your scenario is interesting. It would seem to make sense for the BoJ to buy dollars, as you said. The net effect, though, would be that, overall, the Japanese are not (considering both the govt & the private sector) repatriating, as Fleckenstein was suggesting.
