Here's the reply that I just sent to the FCC, feel free to reproduce, re-post, edit, modify, and transmit to FCC, as you see fit; we need a ground swell here. e-mail to: isp@fcc.gov by Feb. 13!!!

Looks like the monopolistic Local Phone Companies have found a goat to pay for up-grading their copper to fiber etc., to enable them to compete with wireless, cable, etc.
The FCC has relaxed the rules to stimulate competition between various forms of communication... result: we consumers have failed to see the competition, but the price increases flow like water over Niagra!!!
The President has stated that EDUCATION is his #1 priority over the next 4 years. The key to education is Efficient and Effective KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER!!!
To this end, the INTERNET has done more to enhance KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER within the United States than any single thing that has come before it!!!
We ask, can the U.S. afford to cripple this wonderous KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER device by granting the Local Phone Companies windfall profits; via per minute charges for INTERNET USE???
These same phone companies continue to reap Billions from charges for second lines and per call access fees for service, allerady paid by every user of the INTERNET!!!
Might the Phone Companies not be short sighted in thinking that these wonderous windfall profits did not require them to enhance their telephone infrastructure accordingly???
Don't set the UNITED STATES back to the DARK DAYS before the wonderous KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER afforded it's citizens via the INTERNET!!!
Say NO - NO - NO to PER MINUTE CHARGES for local phone access!!! |
