OT CIEN looks attractive...100 mil contract today John Make that 200 mil (REUTERS) Ciena <CIEN.O> wins $200 mln contract from UK firm Ciena <CIEN.O> wins $200 mln contract from UK firm LINTHICUM, Md., Feb 17 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment maker Ciena Corp. said Wednesday it won a three-year, $200 million contract from a London-based phone carrier that pushes its new technology into Europe. Under the deal, privately-held Telemonde Ltd. in London will build a 19-city European network using Ciena's 96-channel product, which multiplies the number of calls a fiber optic cable may carry to about 3 million. Before the 96-channels, Ciena was shipping 40-channel products and 16 channel products that allowed carriers to handle about 32,000 calls down one fiber optic cable. MORE * end of story *
