Advanced Reproductive Care to Install MedTech's Web-Based Java Health Care System
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 1999--MedTech Inc. (OTC:MDTK - news) Wednesday announced that Advanced Reproductive Care Inc. (''ARC'') has selected MedTech's innovative solution, based on Sun Microsystems' 100% Pure Java(TM) technology to Web-enable its current legacy mainframe database so that ARC physician offices throughout the country can access an online database for information in treating patients for infertility.
The Java technology-based solution, called e-MedSoft.com, was developed for MedTech by HealthMed Inc. and Sanga International Inc. and is the first subscription-based health care management system available for delivery through the Internet.
''We are extremely excited about the opportunity for the e-MedSoft.com software to support our participating practices,'' said G. David Adamson, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of ARC. ''e-MedSoft.com will provide ARC with an immediate ability to define clinical documentation standards for infertility practices and build a powerful research database that can be accessed enterprise-wide to support our clinical practice.''
e-MedSoft.com is referred to as ''subscription-based'' because users access the software for a small fee and a per-transaction charge. Previously, health care organizations would pay an upfront fee to license software, then pay ongoing maintenance fees for upgrades and service, with ongoing investments in hardware and software for more features and greater capacity.
''Leading-edge Java technology like e-MedSoft.com is increasing the health care industry's use and acceptance of the Internet as a way to seamlessly interlink computers and communication for managing information across organizational boundaries and reducing costs,'' said Masood Jabbar, president, Computer Systems, Sun Microsystems Inc.
John F. Andrews, chief executive officer of Sanga and chairman and CEO of MedTech, emphasized how technology like e-MedSoft.com has the power to dramatically improve health care management. ''ARC is leading the charge in the health care market by selecting e-MedSoft.com to unify its enterprise, enabling ARC to be more competitive, provide patients the highest quality care and simultaneously reduce costs as well as increase efficiencies and economies.''
Andrews continued, ''More importantly, we believe the health care market is ready to adopt Web-based solutions on a widespread basis, provided those solutions truly meet the needs of the health care industry.
''Apparently the investment community thinks so, too. Last week's IPO of Healtheon (Nasdaq:HLTH - news), founded by Netscape Communication Corp.'s (Nasdaq:NSCP - news) Chairman James Clark, saw the stock jump from $8.00 per share to $35.00 per share in its first day of trading. We believe e-MedSoft.com, developed using Sun's Java technology, provides an excellent, Web-based health care management solution.''
About MedTech:
MedTech's recently acquired medical software product, being sold under the trade name e-MedSoft.com, is leading a transition in the medical industry as the first subscription-based health care management system available for delivery through the Internet. Users of the software are charged a small upfront installation fee and an ongoing subscription fee based on transaction volume.
The medical software is a complete health care management system. Through the Internet, its Java-based integrator allows the MedTech software to communicate across diverse platforms and languages in unlimited capacity, allowing for the interlink of doctors, hospitals, clinics, HMO's, insurance companies, financiers and government agencies.
The ease and low cost with which it can be implemented, its Internet connectivity, and its ability to allow for the exchange of information across diverse platforms and systems bode well for its widespread adoption by the medical community. For more information, see mdtk.com
