By the Evil Himself you mean Intel or the government? This security feature to me is almost exactly like an Caller ID in the telephony world. If you choose, other people can know that it is you they are talking to.

If you are afraid of the chip grabbing info from your computer and send it to Intel, it is not possible. Networking needs OS intervention and MSFT is in the best position to do it. And they do not even need the ID feature. They can do it now.
