I'm afraid I don't understand your question. Are you asking why they don't put everything they have into Java and forget Windows? What would they have to gain by that? Maybe I misunderstood.

You understood fine. They would stand to gain the future. And keep Windows as well. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Also, there is nothing "hidden" about Microsoft's agenda to sell Windows.

True. I was being sarcastic. IMO The real problem with Microsoft is that they still think they are the underdog, and behave accordingly whenever the chance presents itself. Maybe the fact that developers and customers learn to hate their products the more they work with them has something to do with their lack of self esteem.
