As someone who has way too much RPP picked up in the 3.75-4 range, I would certainly vote against any revised offer. I have to assume that the original deal was structured by two intelligent groups of corporate management and was based on a mix of fundamental values and upside potential for the merged companies. There were a number of news articles talking about opposition by Avenor institutional investors because of the negative effect of the merger on their short term returns, even though most agree in the long term it would be good. It is in keeping with the trend to merge into global size forest products firms.

The deal will most likely fall through, but it will be interesting to see what Repap's plan B is ... guess we'll have to wait till the middle of March.
