Martin:
Dell also has plenty of buying muscle, compared with a local cloner, but try it and see if I'm accurate. Several friends have "specked out" a Dell machine, down to the last metal tapping screw (exaggeration), and have saved hundreds of dollars by buying the "exact same machine" at the LC . I know that there are memory chips and then there are memory chips, but the niceties can be lost on a first time purchaser, when a commodity product is the result. I'm not arguing your point because it is very well taken, it's just that Dell's prices are not competitive on a comparative basis, (especially at the lower end) in many instances. It was an eye-opener for me, as I assumed the more common view.

It may not sound like it, but I agree with you,....it is always possible to build something "a little cheaper", and component quality (hard drives for example) can be a victim of this. The PC market is very "price sensitive"

Best, Earlie.
