4,000+ Physicians Create Websites Using New Service From Physicians' Online
Tarrytown, NY, December 8, 1998 Since the September 18th launch of the new Physician Website service from Physicians' Online (POL), the largest online community of physicians, more than 4,000 member doctors have created their own websites, POL President/CEO Dave Richards announced today.
"The remarkably positive response to our new Physician Website service demonstrates that POL is effectively converting physicians, who have been slow to adopt technology, into savvy users of our cutting edge technology and services," Richards continued.
Through the new Website service, member physicians use a template to quickly and easily create an online presence. Having a website can increase office efficiency and enhance patient care by allowing patients to access professional information about the doctor and the practice. Physicians who are not already POL members can go to www.pol.net to register, or call POL through a toll free number to obtain free Internet access software.
Physicians' Online, which offers a secure, client-enabled, physicians-only environment on the Internet, is used by approximately 15,000 unique physicians each day.
"Doctors already depend on Physicians' Online as a communications tool. The new Physician Website service makes it easy for doctors to use the Internet as a practical business tool as well," Richards said. "The response to this new service demonstrates how important it is to help our members run effective practices and keep up with the growing demand to provide the best possible patient care."
Until now, POL has focused primarily on building the largest online community of physicians. With the introduction of the Physician Website service, POL is expanding in new directions. Websites help physicians increase productivity within their practices, by providing information about themselves and their practices as well as health education for their patients.

FWIW look at Broadcast.com and MarketWatch.com to Run Financial News on CompuServe
San Francisco, Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- MarketWatch.com Inc., which runs a financial-news web site, said it will create a financial news center for subscribers of CompuServe, a unit of No. 1 online-access service America Online Inc.
Terms of the agreement weren't disclosed. Other media companies have paid to have their products placed on AOL. Time Warner Inc., for example, paid several million dollars to put the online version of its People magazine on AOL, analysts said.
CompuServe has 2 million subscribers who are generally more familiar with business and technology than AOL's 16 million subscribers.
''Our goal is to partner with the major players of the Internet to widely distribute our content to individuals searching for financial news on the Web,'' Bill Bishop, a MarketWatch.com vice president, said in a statement.
San Francisco-based MarketWatch.com late yesterday said it lost $4.25 million, or 47 cents a share, on revenue of $2.53 million in the fourth quarter.
MarketWatch.com shares rose 6 1/2 to 72. It first sold shares to the public for $17 on Jan. 15.
Broadcaster CBS Corp. and Data Broadcasting Corp., which sells financial-market data to individuals via cable and satellite, each own 38 percent of MarketWatch.com.
