Smile....not sure I understand your question...or maybe it is that I am "too close" to this business...and can't see what it is that you do not understand....

Think of eyeballs...as revenue per thousand...not cost per thousand.

That revenue....post expenses...falls to the bottom line...

the beauty of AOL...is that the expenses are minimized...because the advertisers....provide a lot of the content...and also...pay for advertising...

If you want to "value".....think of the "value" per loyal reader/user
both in terms of eyeballs (revenues), subscriber fees, and consumer (e commerce purchases that the service gets a cut off of).

Is that helpful? That is about as simplistic...as I can explain it.
and the old standbys...laugh...are called "reach" and "frequency"..along with "penetration" "awareness" "trial" "loyalty" "conversion".... (not sure where you got "spread" from....
