Total Building Systems Receives $2 Million Contract, Promotes Douglas T. Philipp to President HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1999--Total Building Systems, Inc. (TBS), the engineering and manufacturing subsidiary of MegaWorld, Inc. (OTC: MEGW), today announced receipt of a $2 million contract from an international oil company for a 72-person steel living quarters complex that will be placed on a production platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The company also announced the promotion of Douglas T. Philipp to president and chief operating officer of TBS. Delivery of the living quarters complex is scheduled for the second quarter of 1999. The steel structure will be fabricated at TBS' Houston Single Lift Facility and then barged to the platform for installation. TBS recently completed an 85-person ultra-lightweight living quarters module for an offshore drilling rig.
Mr. Philipp, 45 years old, joined TBS in April 1998 as vice president and general manager. As TBS president, he replaces Charles D. McPhail, who remains the chairman, president and chief executive officer of MegaWorld.
Mr. Philipp previously was vice president of Six Flags Houston, responsible for construction, capital improvements and ride acquisitions. Prior to that, Mr. Philipp spent 20 years as a Naval officer. A 1975 graduate of the Naval Academy at Annapolis, he qualified as a nuclear engineer, was the project manager for a joint Navy/Central Intelligence Agency research and development project, and served as commanding officer of the nuclear submarine USS Trepang. His awards include three meritorious service medals and the CIA distinguished employee award.
Commander Philipp had extensive shipyard experience in the Navy, working in six shipyards during his Navy career. He supervised the construction and initial at-sea testing of two new nuclear submarines, the USS City of Corpus Christi and the USS San Juan.
"Doug Philipp is the perfect executive to continue the TBS tradition of on-time and on-budget manufacturing," Mr. McPhail said. "As a former Naval officer with shipyard construction responsibility, Doug Philipp knows what it takes to successfully complete the most complex projects, and his Naval background makes him intimately familiar with the harsh offshore environment in which many of our products are placed. TBS customers will benefit from his extensive marine environment knowledge and manufacturing experience."
TBS is a fully integrated engineering and manufacturing company employing approximately 200 people at two Houston locations. Its customers include Amerada Hess, Amoco, Baker Oil, Chevron, Pemex, Chiles Offshore, Schlumberger, Shell Oil, Southwestern Bell, and Texaco.
MegaWorld, Inc. is a diversified company with interests in engineering, manufacturing, real estate, and communications.
