February 17th, 1999 USA VIDEO INTERACTIVE ADDS WAVELET TECHNOLOGY FOR INTERNET VIDEO, OTHER APPLICATIONS
MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT—USA Video Interactive (NASD: USVO) has added high-end, state-of-the-art wavelet-based compression technology to its patented Video-on-Demand™ technology, allowing full-screen, high-speed, high-quality streaming video and video on demand via the Internet using existing telephone lines and standard TV-cable. It also allows USA Video Interactive to optimally utilize fiber-optic cable, which is being installed worldwide.
The addition of wavelet compression to USA Video Interactive's technology provides video images significantly faster and at a higher degree of resolution than previously available methods such as those used by Real Networks and others.
The wavelet compression being incorporated by USA Video Interactive was developed on a proprietary basis for the United States Navy and is just now becoming available for commercial use. When incorporated into the USA Video Interactive technology, it significantly overcomes bandwidth restrictions and eliminates the blockiness and slowness of current technologies, all at a lower cost. It allows extremely high compression ratios while retaining broadcast quality, an essential feature of the USA Video Interactive technology. USA Video Interactive also will use the wavelet technology in creating and encoding digitized content that is self-contained, and thus does not require a plug-in or other special equipment for the user. USA Video Interactive has agreed to pay a royalty on future sales of products that utilize this combined technology.
USA Video Interactive is an international designer and supplier of high-tech Video-on-Demand™ systems and services. The USA Video Interactive technology allows users to view streaming video or to access digitized video libraries, including movies, sports, other entertainment, educational resources, corporate training seminars and other archives. The USA Video Interactive technology gives users full-screen video; the unique flexibility of standard, VCR-like controls of play, fast forward, reverse and pause; and it uses a standard internet-browser format for access. |
