Subject:Q4 Results-Quite a humbling experience.
Date:Feb.18,1999

Ken:

The Q4 earnings was a total disappointment in spite of what the company had to say at the conference call.As a long term investor I am thoroughly disgusted to say the least.

Many of us were expecting at least a penny or two above the consensus but no such luck, that was quite a shock.

Having said that I want to say that everybody is allowed to 'blink' now and then but you guys could have allayed the fears of the investors by at least announcing some new and substantial internet announcements, that along with the split should have helped a lot.But instead we got a 30% haircut from the 52 week high.

I am not giving up on you guys yet but I will have to watch Dell a bit more closely from now on. I have a feeling that complacency on the
part of Dell's management and investors have a lot to do with the Q4 results, well I for one won't be complacent from now on and I hope Dell's management won't be either. This was all quite a humbling experience indeed.

I know you may not be able to comment on these issues,if so that is OK as the idea of this email is just to let you know how many of us investors feel about this whole mess.

Best Regards
Mohan Marette

PS:Many of us are also curious how Dan Niles of BankBoston Robertson Stevens nailed the numbers right on the head, quite similar to Ashok Kumar of Piper Jaffray in Q3,a coincidence? Hard to believe.Well in one way it was good otherwise all the pain would have come at the same time on Feb.17th instead of in doses (couple of three days), also a sudden disappointment on the 16th could have made the drop worse than the 30% we have experienced thus far.
