>>How much regulation does Bellsouth Yellow Pages, Bellsouth.net have from the FCC?<<
i am talking about the parent company. the original point was regarding T...the FCC is the regulatory body that oversees telecommunications in the US. if it gets transmitted in the US, the FCC has a reg for it. its as simple as that.
for example...ISPs have some very real regulation, that is simple but very overlooked. this reg also applies to the modem makers...its that little reg which stops twisted pair data rates at around 54Kpbs.
>>The 14 years Trey was from MSFT IPO. Any time in the late 80's MSFT would have qualified for any antitrust hearing.
I think MSFT told IBM to get lost on the OS2 stuff around 86,87<<
you sure about that? i didnt think MSFT went IPO until 1986. at any rate its moot. at that time apple was a very strong competitor, 3COM and cisco were barely a blip and most applications were being run over a mainframe-workstation paradigm. remember this is really before client/server.
up until 91 or 92 MSFT could have very easily defended itself with OS/2 or MacOS. hell, even quaterdeck had a windowing OS on top of DOS.
justice and the FCC were really quick to review the T/TCI combo. what makes you think they wouldnt be in a T/AOL merger.
>>The reason ADSL is not here now and the reason it's not going for a long time is because the RBOCs figure out they can't make money selling DSL lines. At $30 Month.
For Example, Bellsouth announced a deal with 3com but after the announcement Bellsouth publicly said they can only qualify 20% of their lines to run DSL. Now if they really wanted the DSL business they could qualify 7 of 10 by cutting out load coils and bridge taps. Now if they understood the the digital access business they would capture every account possible. BUT ALL THEY SEE IS $30 month. <<
this i can see. the RBOCs as a whole are not too good at identifying new opportunities. the fact of the matter is that this is theirs to lose. whoever gets to the front door first is going to be awfully hard to get out.
but, i think they will see it. i think they are starting to. i dont know what BLSs problem is, but BEL seems willing to move forward fairly agressively.
as for who is going to win...i think both will. clearly we disagree on this. as for overnight...its just not going to happen.
good luck to all, trey |
