I'm not so sure about your analysis regarding Amelio.

It's easy to judge from that cat bird's seat. No one
can save Apple from it's current mess. I think the objective
here is to slow down the blood flow.

Amelio's real objective is to slow down Apple's death in hopes
of either a buy out or the time to implement a standardized
strategy (i.e. such as their recent look into the Win-NT
O/S).

A buyout at this point looks highly unlikely.

However, they may have more success as another manufacturer of
PC platforms and software applications. Let's face it ... the
days of the Macintosh are limited. To make real money in the
software world you have to sell applications that run on IBM
PCs.

Nobody writes better applications than Apple. Unfortunately
the bulk of their code is written for a great, but dying
animal.
