El: McAldelin is the one who looks like an elderly Church of England vicar. He and Holland wear blue shirts with white collars - English style.

McAldelin also made an interesting little speech which I had not heard before. He said that in anticipation of YK2 problems companies will overstock in the 3rd and 4th quarters, to build an emergency reserve to overcome any interruption in their supply lines caused by YK2 bugs. He said this would apply to all kinds of companies large, medium and small in every sector. The result will be to inflate demand in the 3rd and 4th and create a slowdown in the 1st quarter 2000. This will be a problem within the US and internationally.

We tend to think of the YK2 problem from the point of view of a computer supplier. But CPQ, itself, relies on suppliers, many of whom are located in countries with poor YK2 compliance. I wonder whether CPQ will increase its inventory of components in the 3rd and 4th quarter in anticipation. Also, this might cause major dispruption to DELL which relies so much on smooth working supply lines with very little room for error.
