Just visited my local CompUSA.... Let's talk INVENTORY!!!

I try to visit the local CompUSA periodically to check on inventory. It's been two weeks and all I can say is WOW!! This place is stuffed to the gills with product. And I mean every type of product. Plenty of computers and printers for everyone.

But what really impressed me was the number of monitors. KDS, Compaq, IBM, Apple, Acer... and especially CompUSA monitors are stacked to the rafters. I counted 73 15" CompUSA's stuffed in three different places. There doesn't appear to be that many CompUSA computers in the entire store. Nine months ago, CompUSA advertised 17" monitors for $199.99. I arrived at the store at 6 p.m., just in time to snag the last 17" monitor in the store. Sold out. Two weeks ago, CompUSA began running the same $199.99 ad for 17" monitors. Today, they had 43 on the floor. Could there be a mismatch between the number of monitors and computers? Might consumers be upgrading the computer without the monitor? Are there any pure plays in monitors? (particularly CompUSA)

Incidentally, Intel has a large and cheap looking PIII tout sign behind the computer display. Hardly looks like a slick rollout. CompUSA will have to add a second story if PIII's ship in volume!
