New Mac Software Titles Piling Up Since iMac Launch 02/18/99

Newsbytes, Thursday, February 18, 1999 at 14:02

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1999 FEB 18 (NB) -- By Matt Hines,
Newsbytes. In what may be interpreted as a sign that Apple Computer
Inc. [NASDAQ:AAPL] is truly regaining momentum in the worldwide
personal computer market, over 1,500 new software products have
been introduced since the mid-August launch of the iMac.

When Apple was predicting that the iMac would help it rebuild
market share with end users last summer, many analysts said
that the fate of the new machine would lie in the hands of
applications developers. But as the iMac has won a place with
over 800,000 buyers, it has become clear that the software
community is again interested in aggressively supporting the
Macintosh platform.

Apple officials estimate today that a total of 1,559 new Macintosh
software titles have been introduced worldwide since the iMac
design debuted on May 6, 1998. And the spread of software products
for the Mac environment appears to be a trend worldwide.

At the Macworld Tokyo show this week Apple said that some
901 new localized titles had been announced in Japan since the
iMac's introduction. The PC vendor used the event to launch its
redesigned Power Macintosh G3 machines in Japan, where the
iMac has sold very well.

Last month, market research group PC Data indicated that the iMac
was the number one selling PC through retail channels over the
busy holiday season. PC Data also said the iMac has been the number
one selling PC since its launch last August 15.

Recently introduced titles for the Mac platform include: Adobe
Photoshop 5.0 and Illustrator 8.0; AOL 4.0; FileMaker Pro 4.1;
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 and Outlook Express 4.5; Netscape
Navigator 4.08 and Communicator 4.5; Palm Desktop 2.1; and Quark
Immedia 1.5.
