Ah yes, the vocabulary of the welfare state. All too often, "Less fortunate" is used to describe someone looking for a hand out who just wouldn't get off their ass or break a sweat doing a day's honest work. Just as "lucky", "fortunate" and (Dick Gephart's favorite) "someone who's won life's lottery" is used to describe someone who has worked their butts off and made a success of themselves. Luck or lack thereof doesn't have a damn thing to do with it.
