Nokia Acquires Diamond Lane, Launches IP Division

Do you think that this means that we will have the pleasure of George Hawley's (a.k.a. Dr. Loop's) company here in the last mile again?

For those of you who are new here, George was a frequent and most erudite contributor during the early postings on this thread. (See the uplink above to post #564.)

He started Diamond Lane Communications Corp. and eventually tapered off here, apparently doing the right thing at DLCC. It would be good to see him come back here from time to time.

In any event, Good Luck, George!

Nokia Acquires Diamond Lane, Launches IP Division

Nokia has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Diamond Lane Communications Corporation for approximately $125 million.

The acquisition is expected to give Nokia a critical technological element for driving development of IP and ATM broadband access networks and a greater presence in the U.S. Internet market, according to Mika Vehvilainen, senior vice president of the new IP Solutions Group for Nokia Telecommunications.

Nokia has established the IP Solutions Group as a unit of its new IP and Access Solutions division within Nokia Telecommunications -- all in efforts to enhance its datacom activities. Nokia plans to combine the Fixed Access System business of Nokia Telecommunications with both internal and acquired IP and datacom products and competencies.
