Lawsuits be damned!! Let's talk about recognition for a minute. QCOM is getting front page headlines in the Investors Business Daily & the New York Times. Equally important, the press is finally getting the spin out of the headlines & focusing on facts that have been discussed on the board for a very long time.
Also, I heard a Bloomberg news report that listed four top picks by a money manager for 1999 - Dell, QCOM, Keebler, & one I can't recall.
I just read the January Gilder Technology Letter. If you look at Gilder's top stock picks like TXN, QCOM, & SUNW, it is interesting to note that QCOM is the stock he spends the most time discussing. He comments about the QCOM & ERICY debate were quite humorous, too!!
If you compare the earnings momentum of QCOM vs. other high tech stocks, it is a handsdown winner. Consider the EPS for stocks like LU, MSFT, SUNW, & DELL. All of the companies have recently announced 2 for 1 stock splits except QCOM. However, QCOM compares much more favorably in terms of EPS & EPS growth than any of these stocks except for SUNW. (George really likes them too.) However, I think that QCOM has much more room for upside surprises than SUNW. Hopefully, once the March quarter is announced and the writeoffs for the infrastructure cutbacks are made, QCOM will have a chance to do a 2 for 1 split with undivided attention. |
