Maybe IOM should behave like an Internet company.
Drop the price of Zip disks to $2 and go all out for market share. Short term profit be damned. This risky move would tell all competitors, the removable market is ours and to stay out of it. I think the high cost of the media is the only thing keeping the Zip drive inclusion rate in the single digits. With a $2 Zip disk I bet the inclusion rate could jump to 30% in 12 months. I also believe the stock price would go up, because everyone would now believe Zip will replace the floppy and future profits will come in time. Just like how investors are evaluating Internet companies.
