Bill: I chart stocks too (well, I used to, now I just look at them on a computer) and have never been sure of the right way to handle a one time spin-off. This is especially tough in this case, because while ERC went ex the other day, the spin-off company's stock won't start trading for a month or so, after the completion of the rights offering. So it is not clear how to translate into dollars the value of the spin-off.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The whole point of charting is to look for under-the-surface weakness or strength that might signify something important happening, pro or con. This stock has been so quiet and stable lately that I doubt one could determine anything just by looking at its price action.
