Let's look at the specs of Qualcomm 2700 vs. Nokia 6185.

weight: 6.5 ounces vs. just over 5 ounces
stand-by time: up to 100 hours vs. up to 180 hours
10 ring tunes vs. 32 ring tunes
display: 4 lines of text vs. 5 lines of text
99 memory locations vs. 200 stored names and numbers

That's Nokia's second-generation CDMA chipset against Qualcomm's current offering.

In addition to beating Qualcomm in specs, Nokia does this with a CDMA 800/1900 tri-mode model whereas the Qualcomm model only offers a single digital band. So with Nokia roaming arrangements between CDMA 800 and CDMA 1900 operators are finally possible. Plus Nokia offers advanced features such as "Profiles", which enables users to give incoming calls different priorities and ring tones.

Primeco is planning to offer roaming with Airtouch and Bell Atlantic - using the Nokia phone, because other firms have been unable to come up with a tri-mode alternative anywhere near this quality and brand recognition. The 61xx series does not even need much advertising, because it already is the best-selling platform in USA.

Yeah, the Thin Phone sounds great. And the new generation chipset sounds even better. But what matters is the stuff on the shop shelves. And in 3-4 weeks 6185 is there.
