Walter, albert, Brian,et all, In reading the discussions and insuing arguements there is a consistent competive reference in heated debate to the taking of market share away from one another Intel VS AMD. I submit there is another possibility other than a zero sum two party game. Allow me to put forth another senerio. A senerio under which the market for CPU chips grows at a double digit pace for the forseeable future. A market good enought for both arch rivals to porsper and grow. There is no doubt that the CPU Microprocessor is to the 21st Century what the lightbulb was to the 20th Century. Edison promise was for a safer light source replacing the ARClight and openflame gas. Intel's promise was Moore's Law faster, smaller, cheaper, replacing IBM promise of Centralized Mainframe Data Processing. Allow me the freedom now to jump to the Automobile Industry. I reference it because the Automobile before it became a necessity was considered a vehicle representing freedom, if you owned one or drove around in one you experienced freedom. Intel is like General Motors a car for every life style, while AMD is more like FORD a car everyone can afFORD. Both companies in there early history were fearce rivals, yet both managed to suceed and prosper for it's stockholders. Because a demand driven market grew large enough fast enough for both of them to suceed and prosper for almost 100 years, including Chrysler(Cyrix). Can you imagine buying stock in any of these companies early in their history. Looking back in history ,would you ever sell a share? Furthermore you could not loose investing in any of them! Now draw a pararell to the CPU insustry. Today's Personal Computer is the single most important empowerment tool know to humanity for communication, commerce, education, ammusement, recreation, entertainment and virtual Global travel you all saw the pictures of hawaii. The PC's promise is "global empowerment", leveling the field of play to anyone literate to use one will no doubt become a necessity for prosperous existence, just like owning an automobile contributed to growth and prosperity of the US for the last 100 yrs. The PC will do even more because it's cheaper to own and maintain and use, and it's application are global and inexhaustible as human thought. Furthermore on the brink of the 21st Century due to a number of convergences and thanks to Moore's Law delivering on it's promise PC and CPU demand is going exponential allowing for an enviroment of "If you can build them, they will buy them",(Nus's Law), and guys Intel, AMD, Cyrix, Motorola, Imb, SA Thompson can build them. Yet other companies can not. For they, unlike the above mentioned few, do not posess the technology. Take for instance GE a sophisticated high technology company can't do it and It's company is valued above that of Intel. Go figure which one is overvalued. Which one is the ultimate goldmine or should I say Sandy Beach. I assure you that when GE figures this out they will want it if they can't build it they will buy it. They will have no other choice but to do so. It seems to me this is were at least some of our energy and intellectual capacity should be focused. That is all! Perhaps further discussion may ensue post hasteand without further ado?? |
