I don't believe AAPL can rely totally on software to turn profit. Do you mean OS 8 can compete head-to-head w/ MSFT even OS 8 can run on INTC machine? I think by the time AAPL get OS 8 out, hopefully by 98 summer, MSFT will come up with something more advanced. Nobody in the software industry can beat MSFT in efficiency. And Bill Gates is a smart ass who just know how to market his products even though they are obviously inferior to their competitors in some cases.

And you suggest AAPL to give up on hardware completely? That's totally nonsense. At the first hand before AAPL liscensing their OS to powercc (and many others), they should define what's their goal for doing so. AAPL should never let someone else produce the top-of-the-line computer which has the fattest margin. AAPL spend so much time/money on R&D; the clone makers spend nothing. That's why the clones can sell cheaply. AAPL should stay away from entry-level Mac since they had shown that they just can't compete with the cheap price tag of Wintel and Mac clones.

Think about it - The fastest Mac as of today is made by Daystar w/ 4 PPC CPU. Even for the single processor computer AAPL does not make the fastest one (the leader is powercc). I just don't understand what AAPL is trying to do! (and what can they do?)
