Its pretty mild today -15C.
To build an ice road you can either pack the snow or plough it to the side to let the cold penetrate. You can drive a snowmobile or pick up across a few inches of ice. the more weight the more ice you need.
At some river crosses etc they will actually flood the ice with water to build it up that way.
The bigger trucks have to go slow on the ice roads otherwise they create an ice wave which breaks the ice when it hits shore so on lakes the trucks go only 30 or 40 Kilometers I believe.
