"I don't see much reason to run it on the Jaz."

i'm glad your zip drive was fine, allen.

as to the above statement, why? aren't there "cod" failures with jaz drives as well as zip?

the tip test showed a small number of soft errors the first time i ran it. the text said it's a good idea to perform it a 2nd time to see of some errors correct. well, 2nd time around turned up 10 times as many errors... like i went from 500 soft to 5000 soft with a few firms. yet the explanation still refers to this as a "good, but perhaps not perfect, condition". <g3> the unsettling part is that the text goes on to say that a 2nd test that produces increased errors is an indication of developing "cod" conditions. i guess i need input from the software creator of what is an acceptable level of errors. plus, with only 1 drive to test cartridges on, it is difficult to determine whether the media is defective, or the cartridge. all this being said, i think this jaz is okay. i base that on the number and type of errors compared to the number of sectors that were scanned. the percentage comes out well below 1/2 of 1%. but i hope i'm not coming to this conclusion based on the all-too-familiar propensity for a man to see what he wants to see and disregard the rest. :)

regards,

mark
