Gateway Diversifies its Base of Microprocessor
Suppliers

Company selects AMD to broaden its product line and balance high performance with customer
value

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1999-- Gateway (NYSE: GTW - news) today announced it
has selected Advanced Micro Devices of Sunnyvale, Calif., (NYSE: AMD - news) as its second supplier of microprocessor
components. This move to diversify Gateway's supplier base and complement offerings from Intel will allow the company to
continue providing clients with the best computing value to meet their needs without compromising on features or computing
speed.

''Both Intel and AMD offer a broad range of high quality and competitively priced product lines,'' said Jim Booth, vice
president of Global Materials and Supply Management, Gateway. ''We made the decision to take advantage of AMD's
offerings to add flexibility to our product line and to give our clients choices. Between our business and consumer segments, we
have more than 600,000 PC configurations available to meet the specific requirements of our clients. Gateway's relationship
with Intel will continue to be strong and will contribute to our robust product offerings. Intel will also represent the bulk of our
microprocessor purchases.''

According to Booth, Gateway conducted aggressive testing to ensure AMD's products met Gateway's high standards for
performance and reliability, and their production capability met flexibility and demand requirements.

Gateway expects to begin shipping PCs powered by AMD microprocessors as early as the second quarter 1999.
