WordCruncher Reaffirms Its Position in the Search Market

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1999--In response to feedback received on the beta launch of their Spyhop site, M. Daniel Lunt, President and CEO of WordCruncher Internet Technologies (OTC BB:WCTI) released the following comments.
"There have been a number of questions and comments posed to us since the beta release of the Spyhop site. We appreciate the interest and we empathize with the concerns. I would like to take this opportunity to express our view of our current position and our vision of where we are going over the next 60 to 180 days."
"Back in November and again in December, we committed to have our site up in February. We knew that was aggressive, but we were confident that we could do it. While we understand that this release in it's initial form, is far from representing all of the data that we plan to represent, and that it is simple in its feature set, we are pleased to have met our commitment and we are pleased with the progress we have made thus far."
"We see this as an important phase in the production of a robust commercial site. Beta periods allow us to put real technology in front of real people so we can test how well we've implemented the use interface, how well the technology scales to large numbers of users, and how well the harvesting routines are working in a production environment. It is also important to start at a level that we know we can manage. We are carefully monitoring traffic rates and user feedback. We are very happy with what we are seeing. There are, of course, issues that are coming to our attention and that we will now work to improve."

We intend to hold the available inventory at approximately it's current size until we finish the initial phase of testing, but over the next couple of weeks, you can expect to see the data inventory start growing at a regular pace. I should point out here that it will take us a little time to catch up with the sheer volume of data that is represented by some of the search engines, but at the same time, our strategy for data collection will allow us to create data sets that are above the average."
