CSCO may be doing well but they do not know telephony. IP is a completely different animal and does not translate well into telephony. for example, telephony has strict up time requirements and real time processing requirements. Teh protocols to deliver voice are generally circuit switched or, in the case of ATM, regularly deliver packets every 125usec. Not so in IP. Packets go every which way, get resent, disassembled, reassembled, etc. etc. and then delivered. This DOES NOT WORK FOR VOICE!!! What is the key??? ATM my friend. Who knows ATM --- ASCEND!! (FORGET STRATACOM - talk about a bad mergers Mr. chambers -- forget Granite Systems - wrong direction )
