I'm not so sure about your "stock on thin ice" statement but I do think you raise a good point about the 56kbps modem race.
Most of the new, 56kbps modems, being used 6-9 months from now will not be USR. The remote access equipment providers such as Ascend, Livingston, Cisco, etc. will be using the Rockwell technology in their central site solutions.
Eventually it will not make any difference which manufacturer you choose because they will all talk to each other. Witness V.32bis, V.34, and ISDN TA's.
My hunch is that the difference for USR will be with their other products such as Total Control.
Anyway, one year from now the 56kbps race will be insignificat and we will all be talking about DSL, etc. |
