I hate to be overly optimistic, but I think you are right. The most important message from MD with this quarter's results was " the key to Dell's future growth is broadband access to the internet", or something like that. The whole technology sector hinges on broadband. Look at statements and actions from Intel, AOL, MSFT, ATT, etc... Broadband access is the ultimate convergence of all media forms (print, audio, and video). On top of that, its worlwide. PC penetration is going to leapfrog TV and telephone in less developed countries once broadband gets rolling. Look at Gates' vision 5-10 years out. Satellite networks offering broadband globally. The question is what is Dell's part in broadband. Servers are a big part. High end PC's with cable/DSL modems will certainly be needed. Service and expertise will be in great demand. I can't help thinking Dell will lead all three. Are there other aspects to broadband that Dell can exploit? Any ideas are welcome.
