BGR, I have a question for you then. I somewhat (and emphasize somewhat) share your sympathy for index funds. The major point of favor for them are low expenses. Expenses indeed do matter in investing. (There are other benefits, such as tax efficiency, etc. but it is not my purpose here to delineate the positives...Similarly there are negatives. Specifically I think it is a great idea that has overgrown its positives and contributes to the unbalanced nifty fifty environment we have and potentially makes a crash more a reality.)

My question is this: Do you believe that the efficiency of the market has fluctuations in the extent that it is a valid view? And a follow up: Don't index funds have the confounding effect of reducing market efficiency, the very theory they try to exploit?
