DaimlerChrysler employee taken as an example: hoarding food and weapons etc; now and then a Y2k training exercise.... :

My interpretation:

So this a typical article, just laughing about all those crazy Americans preparing.... here in Europe we are more mature..

Der Spiegel is the most important liberal weekly in Germany, and widely read especially by the now governing Social Democrats and Green party.

This article is especially astonishing; as they are normally capable of high quality in profound investigative journalism.

But not on Y2k; this is yet another example of their (IMO irresponsible) attitude towards Y2k.
