Reuters To Deliver News To Mobile Phones
LONDON (Reuters) - Global news and information company Reuters Group Plc announced Friday the launch of the first of a series of new products that deliver personalized news and information to the wireless markets, including to mobile phone users.

The Wireless Information Server delivers content from Reuters and other third party sources via mobile phone network operators. Users will be able to configure the information they wish to receive by accessing special pages on the Internet, provided by Reuters.

Messages containing the selected news or information will be sent to the individual's phone at times of the day or night chosen by the users. These messages will be also available to a user traveling in any country with a compatible GSM network and service.

''It is the first time users have had the ability to personalize their information needs to such a degree and from such a wide source,'' Reuters Managing Director, Global Sales and Operations, Maurizio Pescosolido said in a statement.

''Just as we have embraced the Internet in terms of delivering our news and information, so too are wireless devices now within our orbit,'' he added.
