A supportive loving muse can be a great asset to a great man- perhaps muses are hard to find today, but in the past history has been replete with them.

So true: a supportive woman/muse is a great asset, AND they are harder to find today -- the role of women has changed quite a bit in the last century, and far fewer are willing to sublimate their lives and individuality in service to the nurturing of their artist/husband/lover's work and career. Women aspire to become more actualized in the pursuit of their own identities and vocational interests within relationships, and are more demanding of reciprocal support in this pursuit. I think this makes for happier and more fulfilled women, yet diminishes the hot house nurturing they once provided artists.

Doggonit, martyrism just ain't what it used to be. . .

p.s. I don't pretend to be even a near great artist--I'm just a guy who's been able to string a few words and notes together well enough to make a living in music.
