tippet, I suspect you have either a very limited or rusty background in economics and/or finance. The metric that all financial professionals use is economic profit per share(earnings, cash flow, free cash flow), not profit per dollar of sales. And the metric we use to determine the efficiency of a firm is ROIC, not margins. If you lose sight of these points you cannot evaluate any business properly. I say this with all respect: This is not a put-down. Get a good elementary book on finance and read it. I would be happy to provide you with some suggestions. TTFN, CTC
