Jim et al -- Most of us want to connect to the internet at speeds of 28.8 or even greater. Currently the phone companies (Pacific Bell anyway) will only guarantee 4.8 on a business line (no guarantee at all for a residential line). Therefore I'm suggesting to the FCC that if the phone companies want to charge $ .10 a minute then they have to guarantee 28.8, or even better 36.6, clear data transmission with voice over. After all, this is where technology is today -- if they want to get paid they should catch up! I think it would be real expensive for the phone companies to update all equipment to that standard. And, if you are paying for an internet line and it doesn't seem to be working to your satisfaction there would probably be lots of service calls -- right? And if they don't respond in a timely manner there would be lots of complaints to the utilities commissions, and the FCC. I mean LOTS of complaints.

p.s. I also think they should pay us $.10 a minute anytime the line won't support at least 28.8. I could retire!
