Great article regarding CLECs. NN gets some press. techweb.com The concept of centralized switching is a valid selling point for the NN ATM Hardware. Imagine being able to eliminate multiple 5ESS switches at a fraction of the cost using ATM. Place ATM switches at Bell Co-locates, backhaul the traffic using SONET, drop the traffic to a central 5ESS switch. Save a bundle by eliminating redundant 5ESS switches. Optimize the Sonet transport and reduce SONET hardware. Save a bundle on Sonet muxes. This is the most compelling use for carrier class ATM switches.
